This time we’ll compare two handsets with slide-out QWERTY keyboard Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Pro and Nokia E7 to find out which is the best handset between the two.
The first spec to compare as usual is the phones’ form. The Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Pro has 120x57x13.5mm, 142g of dimension and weight while Nokia E7 has 123.7×62.4×13.6mm, 176g. The Xperia Pro presents the similar good looking feel and style as the other Xperia cousins. It offers some interesting blend of straight and angular style more sexy curve that looks very easy in the eyes. The Xperia Pro also offers a slide out keyboard without making the phone really heavy.
In the meantime the Nokia E7 also provides the same level of excellence in term of design. Despite features less curvature in its design compared to the Xperia Pro, the E7 still offers the interesting blend of the straight and angular style. The handset looks very elegant and seems to be a fusion of phone, tablet and laptop in its distinctive ‘bar’ like design. It’s notable that the phone also features a slide-out Qwerty keyboard and comes in various and playful colors option.
Very: Both phones are good looking, it’s a draw.
The second spec to compare is the phones’ display. The Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Pro comes with a 3.7-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen at 480×854 pixels and 264ppi of screen resolution. The phone naturally comes with Sony Ericsson’s Timescape user interface (UI) and the Sony Mobile Bravia engine with the screen’s features includes multi-touch, scratch-resistant screen and an accelerometer.
In the meantime the Nokia E7 offers a 4-inch Amoled capacitive touchscreen at 360×640 pixels and 183 pixels-per-inch (ppi) of screen resolution. To make the display sharper the handset uses Nokia’s ClearBlack screen technology. In addition Nokia E7 also offers features including Multi-touch input, toughened Gorilla Glass display, and an accelerometer sensor.
Verdict: Nokia E7 offers a larger display yet it is the Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Pro higher ppi that wins this round comparison.
The next thing to compare is the phones’ storage capacity. Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Pro provides the users with 320MB of onboard space and 512MB of RAM to help with processing applications. The Xperia Pro also supports up to 32GB of Micro SD for external storage while 8GB card is already included with the phone.
Meantime the Nokia E7 offers a much larger internal storage capacity with a 16GB of in-built storage. The presence of 1GB of ROM makes it up for the less impressive RAM setup at only 256MB. Unfortunately the Nokia E7 doesn’t provide any card slot that will make data transfer a little less unpractical.
Verdict: Despite the Glaring flaw, Nokia E7 wins this round comparison for simply providing larger internal storage capacity.
The fourth spec to compare is the phones’ processor setup. The Xperia Pro is equipped with a single core 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 running on the Snapdragon chipset and paired with an Adreno 205 graphics processing unit (GPU). Meanwhile the Nokia E7 offers a slightly more modest setup with a 680MHz ARM 11 processor coupled with a Broadcom BCM2727 GPU.
Verdict: The more powerful clock rate wins it with for Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro.
The fifth spec to compare is the phones’ operating system. Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Pro runs on the latest smartphone build Google’s Android OS, 2.3 Gingerbread. The Gingerbread is the most mature Android version for smartphone with a lot of improvements from its predecessor, 2.2 Froyo.
Meanwhile the Nokia E7 runs on the latest Symbian version, the Symbian^3. The same with Gingerbread, Symbian^3 is also a more matured OS compared to its previous version. With a lot of improvements such as enhanced UI and browser performance, the Symbian^3 proves to be a decent OS.
Verdict: While the Symbian^3 can be considered as a decent OS, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro’s Gingerbread is by far a lot more interesting. Thus our vote goes for Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro in this round comparison.
The last spec to compare is the phones’ optical setup. Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro comes with a decent 8-megapixel primary camera at 3264×2448 pixels of resolution and 720p video capture quality. The camera setup comes with features such as touch focus, autofocus, geo-tagging, LED flash and face and smile detection for the still image capture while for the video features include continuous autofocus and a video light. For video calling Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro also provide a VGA secondary camera.
The Nokia E7 has not been disappointing either featuring the same 8-megapixel primary at 3264×2448 pixels of resolution with features include dual-LED flash, geo-tagging and face detection. The Nokia E7 camera setup offers the same video capture quality as the Xperia Pro and also feature the same VGA secondary camera.
Final Verdict:
Sony Ericsson has been excelled in almost all specification other than the storage capacity. If you are in a position two choose between the two handset, makes sure your choice goes to the Xperia Pro.
