BlackBerry Style, a new RIM’s BlackBerry release, what should we expect to see in this “Style”? Goes by the name Style, the phone really got people curious whether this is just a marketer’s word or it is truly what RIM’s going to deliver. Let’s end up this wariness and rip the phone to see what actually “Style” means.

The standard BlackBerry design is usually monolith, similar to candy bar and even it is has become an imagination for many people that a BlackBerry should be. A QWERTY keyboard located below the screen that can easily type emails, SMS and even office. BlackBerry is also attached with the connection and messaging image that is considerably not very stylish.
Being the successor of BlackBerry Torch, the BlackBerry Style seems have the opportunity to break the standard BlackBerry device tradition. In design the phone is no longer a candy bar shape but now it is a flip with the QWERTY keyboard remains.
However, the BlackBerry Style is not the first RIM’s flip phone. Long ago RIM has launched the BlackBerry Pearl Flip that is trying to be friendlier phone. Shortly the Style size is 4” long, about 2.5” wide and about 0.5” thick and when the flip is open the phone will be 7” long. The internal display size of the Style is 360×440 pixel and the external display is 240×320. The external display shows the current time, incoming calls and even allows you to preview messages. The phone can standby up to 10 days and will last three days when it is used for heavy communication.
This phone is powered by the latest BlackBerry that is the OS 6. This OS brings new features like integration with RSS feeds, social networks and it is faster. The processor speed of this phone is at 624MHz that is quite fast for navigating through the phone, doing multiple tasks including video playback. WebKit browser is also equipped with the universal search that also connects to the Interwebs for data.
The fast processor is accompanied with 512MB internal storage and 8GB of micro SD card included in the purchasing. Like other standard BlackBerry this phone also has GPS radio built in and BlackBerry Messenger. This phone used trackpad navigation to work around the phone.
As mention, one of the disadvantage of the phone is it’s flat keypad that is not quite comfortable for typing because it is prone to miss-type. The shape is like teeth in a row, the key is not well separated.
Now we already had a glimpse on the phone specs and by looking at the specs pops up a question, what is the Style target market? At the price of $99, that is quite cheap it may reach the budget BlackBerry entry level user. But seeing the design that is quite big, flipped and bulky, this isn’t for the average BB user that it is not very comfortable with busy use.
So why should we go for this device? There are some advantages also we can get from the phone. Probably the main reason is that the device is running on Sprint’s network and powered by the latest BlackBerry OS 6. Compared to the other competitor with similar price this two main feature really stands out whether in RIM or any other manufacturers. However looking at the style of the phone, people who buy this phone should fall in love at the first sight with it because the style is not ordinary.
In conclusion the BlackBerry Style really breaks some BlackBerry tradition and brings some new style. However people may prefer the old standard BlackBerry design. But with low price and great feature it may capture many hearts, we will see and observe.
