Did you know that the deleted files are not completely gone? The deleted files have gone, but they are not completely swept away since they left some residues somewhere on your device’s system. Actually, the residue that left on the system is useful for recovering or reconstructing the deleted files but, it may eat up the memory. To remove the files along with the residues, it is recommended to overwrite the memory sectors where the residues remain. There is an alternative way to clean up the residues from the Android device. For the Android user, here it is SHREDroid for Android, your residues remover for your Android device. This application will help the Android user to either manually remove all traces of deleted files from device’s internal memory and/or SD card or set it to do so automatically after set intervals of time.
SHREDroid reminds us to CCleaner’s Drive Wiper feature, but with simpler version.
This freeware will let the Android user to choose the time interval between successive automatic wipes. Moreover, when the SHREDroid runs as a background application, it can be set to wipe or “secure delete” only when the device is locked. According to the source, SHREDroid took 4 minutes to clean up both internal and external storage the first time around of HTC Desire Z running MIUI. It also had been proved by attaching the device to the computer and scanning its SD card with another free application. SHREDroid kept its promise with cleaning it a shred of recoverable data.
On the contrary with testing SHREDroid on HTC Desire Z running MIUI, testing the app on an HTC Desire running a custom MIUI ROM (MIUI XJ D2EXT X-Part) and an HTC HD 2 running the original MIUI shows different result. When the screen was allowed to time out during the wipe, the application will make the device freeze. However, once the scan has been completed, it will back to its normal condition. The scan reportedly bothers the communication too, we can’t make a contact or received a message when the device was scanned. Apart from that, SHAREDroid alos refused to clean up the SD card. The application reportedly failed to clean up the SD card.
If we take a look to those tests, it could be the EXT partitions / data2ext scripts used in both HTC Desire running a custom MIUI ROM (MIUI XJ D2EXT X-Part) and an HTC HD 2. For the Desire Z users, who want to have this application on their device, simply visit the Android Market.
