Head to Head Comparison: Nokia C3 vs. BlackBerry 9300 Curve

This time, let’s see how the Nokia C3 stacks up with the BlackBerry 9300 Curve by comparing the phones’ key specifications.

The first specification to compare is the phones’ form. The BlackBerry 9300 Curve has 109 x 60 x 13.9 mm, 104g of dimension and weight while the Nokia C3 has 115.5 x 58.1 x 13.6 mm, 114g. The appearance of BlackBerry Curve 9300 is in line with the distinctive RIM’s BlackBerry style. Slight differences with the others BlackBerry handset are indeed presence but you’ll notice that the Curve is RIM’s right after you see it.

In the meantime the Nokia C3 seems to follow the BlackBerry’s style with the almost similar curvy design as well as the compact QWERTY keyboard and screen.

Verdict: Besides insignificant slight difference in term of weight, it’s hard to separate the phones in visual design. Hence it’s a draw.

The second spec to compare is the phones’ display. The Nokia C3 boasts 2.4-inch TFT screen with 256K colors while the BlackBerry despite having same size TFT screen only supports 65K colors. The others screen related difference is that the Curve features a touch sensitive optical track-pad that makes scrolling and navigation smoother and easier in the BlackBerry design.

Verdict: The Curve’s trackball is a very interesting feature; however since we’re talking about display our vote goes to the 256K colors display of Nokia C3.

The third spec to compare is the phones’ storage capacity. Firstly let’s don’t let your hopes get too high for this spec as both phones’ offer modest storage capacity. The BlackBerry Curve offers 256 MB of RAM and 256 MB of ROM and supports Micro SD cards up to 32 GB. The Nokia C3 comes with a slightly different storage setup with 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of ROM plus an additional 55 MB of onboard storage space. The Nokia C3 also offers support for Micro SD card but limited only to 8 GB with a 2 GB card is supplied as standard.

Verdict: With higher RAM and ROM amount and Micro SD support BlackBerry wins this round comparison.

The next spec to compare is the phones’ processor. Both phones features modest processor setup, but keep in mind that this handsets aim for the low end users the setup is appropriate. The Nokia C3 is powered with an ARM 11 600 MHz processor. It’s not the kind of spec you’d like to play, for example: Dungeon Defenders, but it’s working just fine for low key tasks, such as key networking, browsing, and data transfer. In the meantime the BlackBerry Curve comes with slightly more muscular processor setup with a 624 MHz Tavor PV processor.

Verdict: The difference is small but the Curve indeed has a better clock rate, hence it’s a wins for the BlackBerry Curve 9300.

The fifth spec to compare is the phones’ operating system. The BlackBerry Curve 9300 runs on the RIM’s BlackBerry OS 5. Compared to the more sophisticated iOS, Windows Phone 7 and Android, the BlackBerry OS 5’s appearance may seem undesirable but it does have the competency to get the job done.  Meantime the Nokia C3 runs with a rather old-aged symbian S60 operating system.

Verdict: BlackBerry OS 5 beats up the Symbian S60 easily. It’s a wins for the BlackBerry Curve 9300.

The last spec to compare is the phones’ camera setup. Both phones shares the same spec of camera setup with a 2-megapixel camera at 1600×1200 pixels which also able to capture video.

Both phones feature quite modest specifications with the BlackBerry Curve 9930 often to be the better one. The Nokia C3 features almost similar setup with the Curve but it’s never exceed it.
