As we already acknowledge the Nexus S is the Google’s official Android developers’ phone. In this case is only normal for it to already run different ROMs at this point. It has run the likes of the beautiful MIUI and the quick and smooth CyanogenMod ROMs; however there is something missing on the list as the Nexus S has never run the lovable HTC’s Sense UI. Fortunately the Sense-based ROM available for the Nexus S has eventually been developed and released by one of the XDA-Developers forum member apreichner so we can try it to our own Nexus S.
The name of the ROM is NexusSense. It is based on Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread and using Sense 2.1. The initial release of this ROM has some flaws such as the lack of most of the basic function and its slow characteristic. However the updated version has improved a lot as it no longer has sign of any lags at all.
The updated version also has the essential features up and running such as WiFi, GPS, Sound, SMS / Phone and HW3D. Nevertheless the NexusSense isn’t free from flaws as it unable to run the Camera / Camcorder properly and failed to have the phone connected to the PC as a disk drive. For the appearance, don’t expect too much any fancy custom themed UI because the ROM is just look like any other HTC Android 2.3.3 ROM.
Let’s start the steps, shall we?
Requirements:
- Makes sure that you already have your Nexus S rooted.
- Makes sure you have a custom recovery installed in it.
- USB cable.
- NexusSense ROM.
Instructions:
Just simply Download the NexusSense ROM and copy it to the root of your SD card.
Reboot into recovery mode and flash the ROM, only after you’ve made a nandroid backup and it’s done.
Congratulations, if you’ve done the steps correctly you’ll have your Nexus S run the custom HTC Sense Gingerbread ROM!
