Even though the official upgrade is not available yet, several forums have shared the HTC Desire’s users a method to feel the new experience with the latest Google’s Android operating system Android 2.3 Gingerbread. If you guys the HTC Desire users are interested with Android 2.3 Custom ROM installed in your lovely phone, read its step by step guide so the phone can be installed successfully.
Before executing the installation, make sure that all of the data have been backed up to the save place since this activity will wipe everything on the device.
After that, please root the device. Once the phone has been rooted, download the GingerNinja V0.11 to the computer (the downloaded file doesn’t need to be extracted), then copy it to the microSD of the rooted device. Please make sure not to copy it to any sub-folder of the card. Once the custom ROM has been copied to the device, unplug the device from the computer.
Restart the device by pressing and holding both the Power Button and the Volume Down button until the device shows its white bootloader screen. To boot the device into Recovery mode, use the volume buttons of your phone to scroll to ‘Fastboot’ and then select ‘Recovery’ from the next menu.
To wipe all existing data and settings from your phone, scroll to ‘Wipe Data’ and select ‘Wipe Data/Factory Reset’ followed by ‘Wipe dalvik cache’, to wipe all existing data and settings from your phone.
The next step is installing the unpacked ROM that has been copied to microSD card. Scroll to ‘Apply .zip from SD card’ and select the .zip file to install the new ROM. The phone will flash the ROM so the user needs to be patient. Once the process is finish, reboot the device. You are now holding a HTC Desire with Android 2.3 inside.
