Samsung Galaxy S Tips: Set Up POP3 and IMAP email accounts

Here it is another tips to optimize your Samsung Galaxy S.

There are two Email that provided by Samsung Galaxy S. The first one is for Gmail and the second one is for the other Email server where IMAP and POP3 included. So, here the directions to guide you make integrate account and make you access IMAP and POP3 easier.

Since the setup for both IMAP and POP3 is the same, the following directions is valid for both them.

1. Tap the Home icon (figure 1)
2. Tap the Grid icon so you can view all installed applications (figure 1)
3. Tap the Email icon (figure 2)
4. Enter your Email Address and Password for the account you are setting up and tap Next (figure 3)
5. Select the type of account: POP3, IMAP, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync; select either POP3 or IMAP, as appropriate (figure 4) — if you would like to configure an Exchange account, plea see see our Exchange set-up guide
6. Enter the Incoming server settings: Username, Password, POP3 server (ex: pop.yourdomiain.com), Port, Security type, and Delete email from server, then tap Done, and then Next (figure 5)
7. Enter the Outgoing server settings: SMTP server (ex: smtp.yourdomain.com), Port, Security type, Require sign-in (check box), Username, and Password, then tap Done, and then Next (figure 6)
8. You can now select Account options: Email checking frequency (15 minutes by default), Send email from this account by default (check box), and Notify me when email arrives (checkbox) — make your selections and tap Next (figure 7)

9. Your email account is now set up on your Samsung Galaxy S and must be named — also be sure to enter your name to be displayed on outgoing messages (figure 8)

After accomplishing those steps, it will connected to your Email account and retrieving it directly. You can also change your settings while viewing your Email account by tapping the Menu icon — which is directly to the left of the Home icon — and then tapping Account settings.

Here the list of available options:

1. Account name

2. Your name

3. Email check frequency

4. Default account (make the current account the default email account on your Samsung Galaxy S)

5. Email notifications

6. Select Ringtone

7. Vibrate

8. Incoming settings (to modify IMAP or POP3 server settings)

9. Outgoing settings (to modify SMTP server settings)

There is a uniqueness of making another email account on Samsung Galaxy S. It can be done while you’re still accessing your previous email account. Just click the Menu icon and tap Accounts. The only thing you do just follow the instructions.

    Do you know how to delete an email account that you have already created. Once you create an account it seems like it is impossible to delete it!

    Walker Man,
    I’m in the same boat. I accidently typed my email with .com instead of .net and there simply is no way to get it corrected. Since this is not my work email (but personal one), I am not able to see it when I look at accounts and sync from the menu bar and the .com cannot be corrected in the settings mode.

    Can anyone help with this one????

    To delete an email account you go into email and just touch the screen and hold on the account you want to remove. Another dialogue box will open where you can remove the account.

    when a new email comes into my inbox the previously downloaded emails disappear.how do you keep them in the in box until you want to delete them manually?

    I am trying to set up a pop3 account on my samsung facinate still running android 2.1. when I give it the requied information, email address, password, port (110)and leave the security setting and delete email from server setting on the default option, I click on next. I get the message unable to open connection to server.

    Any ideas?

    i did set up an e mail account, then cancelled it as it became annoying.
    Now I would liek to set it up again but I keep getting \unable to retrieve available connectors\ and \unknown error while retrieving available connectors\.
    does anyone have any ideas – dont know if its a setting Ive changed somewhere or what?
    any help would be greatly appreciated !

    I am using the Samsung Galaxy S. Trying to setup my email to info@desingcreativeweb.com.
    I enter my email address, my password, NEXT > Username : (my email address) and my password, IMAP SERVER: imap.designcreativeweb.com and port 143, then NEXT > then I get error msg saying Unable to open connection to server. I dont even get to the outgoing settings, what am I doing wrong?

    I thought this would be same setup for Samsung Nexus S but it doesn’t work every time I attempt to setup this is message I get “Setup could not finish Unable to open connection to server” is it just me or anyone else having the same issue or could it be Android 2.3

    I see chases instructions for deleting an email address. I am still having trouble with that. I can not find where to go to touch and hold to get the menu. I tried going into settings and i tried touching and holding the email link at the bottom of the screen. Any help would be wonderful!

    my ipop3 account works sporadically. I have tried deleting and re-adding the account and also taking out and re-inserting the battery. Any suggestions before I throw this new Samsung Galaxy S against the wall?
