Samsung Galaxy S2 is one of the best Smartphone in the market today; nevertheless the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 is not a bad Smartphone either.
Let’s see the key specifications of the two Smartphones to see which is one better, the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 or the Samsung Galaxy S2, shall we?
Firstly let’s get through the phones form. Samsung Galaxy X2 has 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.5 mm, 116 g of dimension and weight while the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 115 x 66 x 10.5 mm, 130 g. The appearance of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is quite disappointing as it looks squashed, rounded and frankly unattractive and seems not to be proportional. The new RIM’s handset also fails to deliver on the weight aspect as it 130 g handset quite heavy in the hand.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 in the other hand looks modern, sleek and nicely proportioned with angular corners and long lines, certainly better than the BlackBerry’s. In addition the Samsung’s handset also has a feather weight at only 116 g that certainly wouldn’t weigh down your hand or your appearance.
The presence of the Qwerty keyboard on the BlackBerry Bold 9900 could be the much needed added value for the handset. However it turn out to be some sort of expensive luxury as it takes up so much room and shoves the touch screen up into the top quarter of the device which is certainly not good in esthetically.
It has to be said that the Galaxy S2 has a better looking appearance than the BlackBerry Bold 9900, hence the verdict for this aspect goes to the Samsung’s handset.
The second specification to be discussed is the phones display. The Samsung Galaxy S2 has a 4.3-inch screen at 480 x 800 pixels at 218 dots-per-inch (dpi) Super Amoled Plus capacitive touchscreens. To makes sure the screen is well protected the Korean manufacturer has the display made from reinforced ‘Gorilla Glass’. Compared to the one used by the Galaxy S2, the BlackBerry’s screen is quite minute at 2.3-inches, it’s a TFT ‘Liquid Graphics’ capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels at 287dpi.
The Galaxy S2 is equipped with the TouchWiz 4.0 user interface (UI) and features multi-touch input plus accelerometer and gyro sensors while the BlackBerry Bold comes with an optical track pad and features an accelerometer sensor.
With its much bigger screen size, higher resolution and the use of Super Amoled Plus technology, Samsung has win the verdict for this specification.
The third specification to be discussed is the storage. The valuation for this specification is clear, which one has the bigger storage space win it. BlackBerry Bold offers 8 GB with 768 MB of RAM and supporting up to 32 GB Micro SD. In the meantime Galaxy S2 offers 16 or 32 GB internal storage capacity with 1 GB of RAM and supporting the same capacity of SD card compared to the Bold. Hence it’s another clean win for the Galaxy S2.
The fourth specification is the operating system. The BlackBerry Bold sports the BlackBerry OS 7 while Samsung Galaxy sports the Android Gingerbread 2.3.
Both of them are great operating system, hence we call it a draw for this specification.
The fifth specification to be discussed is the Processor. The RIM’s BlackBerry Bold is equipped with a single core 1.2 GHz processor and using a Qualcomm 8655 Snapdragon. In the meantime the Samsung Galaxy S2 is equipped with 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9 dual core processor on the Orion chipset and running with a Mali-400MP graphics processing unit (GPU).
For this specification, the use of dual core made the Samsung Galaxy S2 a clear winner.
The sixth specification to be discussed is the Camera. The BlackBerry Bold comes with a RIM’s standard 5-megapixel primary camera at 2592х1944 pixels and 720p video capture quality with features include LED flash, geo-tagging, autofocus, face detection and image stabilization. In the meantime Samsung provides a better 8-megapixel primary camera at 3264×2448 pixels and video capture at 1080p.
While the Bold doesn’t provide any secondary camera, the Galaxy S2 offers a 2-megapixels secondary camera. Samsung Galaxy S2 wins in this specification comfortably.
Overall the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is one of the best BlackBerry smartphones. However after we’ve compared its specification with the Galaxy S2 turns out that the Galaxy S2 looks much better, has a lot more storage space, a far superior camera and stronger processor.
