For the Roger’s Captivate Glide users, please note that you are not going to be required to flash the CarrierIQ free kernel on way to rooting your device since your kernel is already CarrierIQ Free. Instructions to gain root access of Samsung Captivate Glide:
1. The rooting process begins with putting your phone into download mode. It can be gained by turning off the phone, press volume UP and keeping the button pressed, press the power button. A screen should ask you if you want to continue – press volume up to confirm. Once done, launch ODIN.
2. If you are the AT&T’s customer, precede the rooting process with hitting the PDA button select the .tar kernel extracted from the CarrierIQ free kernel zip file or the OC’d version of it.
3. Once done, now connect the device to the PC and once detected in ODIN, hit the Start button.
4. As soon as the phone reboots, put it in download mode for once more. If the flashing failed, try flashing this insecure kernel.
5. After this, you can flash the ROM on your device. Of course, it is depending on your carrier’s ROM. Run ODIN and hit the PDA button selecting the .tar ROM once extracted.
6. Hit the Start button and let the ROM flash.
7. When the phone has finished rebooting, run the Market and make sure you have the latest version of Superuser installed and that su is updated.
Once you have finished practicing the entire steps above, you should now have gained root access of your Captivate Glide permanently.
