
Good news for you who have got hands-on to the Google’s latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Nexus as the method to root this device has been discovered. The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich running device packs some powerful hardware specifications that should promise good performance to the users. However, despite it has been powered by some powerful hardware specifications, improving its standard ability is a fair stuff simply like the other Android running devices. Before we move on to the instruction steps to root the Galaxy Nexus, it is better for us to show our appreciation to Paul over at the MoDaCo forums who have provided a method to root Galaxy Nexus using Superboot. This is “boot.img that, when booted, will root your device the first time you boot (installing su and the superuser APK).”
Rooting Galaxy Nexus using Superboot image is not totally secure as it allows you to use the adb remount command and gives you full ADB root access. However, please note that if you tried to reboot your device, the entire ADB root access will be lost. The method to root Galaxy Nexus using Superboot works well on Windows, Linux and Mac.
Before we move on to the instruction section, we need to remind you that we are not responsible if the following method triggers the device end up with bricked or damaged. So, please practice the entire steps at your own risk.
In order to root Galaxy Nexus successfully, there are two requirements that need to be fulfilled by the device users and here is the list of them.
Requirements to root Galaxy Nexus:
• Superboot package.
• ADB installed. (Incase your device is not unlocked yet.)
Once you have all of the requirements, now you are set to practice the instructions.
Instructions to root Galaxy Nexus:
1. For the first step, make sure your device is unlocked. If not do so by booting your phone into bootloader mode (Hold the Volume up and down keys as you press the power button) and connect it to the computer via USB.
2. Once done, open up a terminal or command prompt and navigate to the android-sdk-windows\toolsfolder to enter the following commands (Entering the following command will wipe all your data on the phone):
fastboot oem unlock
3. Simply go back to bootlaoder mode and extract the Superboot package once the unlocking process has finished.
4. For Windows, (refer to step 5 & 6 for Linux and Mac) open up the folder of the extracted package and run Install-Super-Boot-Windows.bat to start the rooting procedure.
5. For Linux, open the terminal, navigate to the location of the extracted package and enter the following commands:
chmod +x install-superboot-linux.sh
./install-superboot-linux.sh
6. For Mac open the terminal, navigate to the location of the extracted package and enter the following commands:
chmod +x install-superboot-mac.sh
./install-superboot-mac.sh
